Oral Care Ideas before Bedtime

  • Jan 12 2017

Brushing your teeth should be done at least twice a day, preferably morning and night. If you will not brush your teeth before going to bed, you might wake up in the morning feeling uncomfortable. Thus, before going to bed, you should ensure that you will do the following things. These will not only help in maintaining whiter teeth, but they can also help in maintaining healthy gums.

Brush Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth is a must before going to bed as this helps in maintaining strong and healthy teeth. It also prevents plaque buildup and gum diseases. Of course, it also helps in making your teeth whiter.

When brushing the teeth, make sure that you do it in gentle strokes. Brush back and forth, including the outer surfaces of the teeth, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces. With this method, you are ensured that every food and sugar particle is removed from your teeth.

If you want a more efficient way of cleaning your teeth, you can buy and use an electric toothbrush. This will cost you some dollars but it is more effective in removing plaques from the teeth. When buying an electric toothbrush, you should choose one that is comfortable to hold and easy to use.

Floss

You should also floss your teeth aside from brushing them. By flossing your teeth, you are removing the food particles and the plaque that are inserted in between them. If the food particles are not removed before you sleep, bacteria will eat them and this can lead to their rapid increase. Also, by flossing the teeth, the soft plaque build ups will be removed. If they are not removed immediately, they will harden up, making them difficult to be removed manually.

Flossing is mostly recommended to be done before going to bed. However, if you are very prone to gum diseases, or you have an easy buildup of tartar, you should also floss your teeth in the morning before going to work or just after brushing your teeth.

Gargling With Mouthwash

Gargling or rinsing your mouth with a mouthwash is another oral care that you must do before going to bed. By doing this, you will surely wake up having fresh breath in the morning. Also, your teeth will be free of plaque and cavities because of the mouthwash. Gum diseases and infections can be prevented as well by rinsing with a mouthwash. Aside from those, there are therapeutic mouth washes that contain fluoride and other special ingredients. These special ingredients can strengthen the teeth more so that they will not decay easily.

Caring for your teeth is very important if you want to wear your sweet smile as often as you want.
